Veedersburg Brickyard
You might not think much of the Veedersburg Brickyard. It's just another abandoned factory, right? No, wrong! There is a lot more to the old brickyard than you may think.
In 1909, the factory was contracted to make the bricks that would pave the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The bricks were replaced several years ago by asphalt. Most of the bricks were dumped into a stream that is now part of a golf course that runs behind the track and even spans into the infield! People have gone diving searching for and salvaging these bricks. All that remains of the bricks is the famous row of bricks at the start/ finish line. This is really neat to me, if my opinion counts, because Veedersburg is a short drive for me. Small towns have a lot of history, just like the brickyard! |
